Biography for Stephen Bird
I have worked in museums, tourism and heritage management in Bath for many years, and have become well aware of the strong ecclesiastical connections between Bath, Wells and Glastonbury.
The abbey has always seemed to me to be a sleeping giant, with so much potential to educate and inspire. While it is our legal duty to protect the ruins, we also have the privilege of presenting and interpreting them to everyone who comes here, from local residents to international tourists.
Glastonbury Abbey is central to the spiritual history and mythology of the region and, as trustees for a brief moment in time, we are privileged to be its custodians, to offer good governance, sound stewardship and strategic thinking.
