Be entertained at the abbey this summer

Glastonbury Abbey has a fantastic calendar of events to offer the whole family this summer.

A great range of family workshops and holiday activities give children the opportunity to dive into the past, the ‘Hands on History’ week is underway now, until Saturday July 29, and celebrates the festival of British Archaeology; weekly King Arthur themed family drama workshops on Tuesdays during the school holiday and Friday family fun sessions will inspire creativity whilst enabling families to learn more about the abbey’s past.

A diverse range productions include Shakespeare’s As You Like It, brought to the abbey by the Handlebards’ cycle-powered theatre and the Festival Players bring Merry Wives of Windsor while a weekly badger watches provide a wonderfully unique opportunity to admire the abbey’s wildlife every Thursday evening until September and the annual fun dog show, August 13, delivers an enjoyable opportunity for dog owners of all age to take part whilst supporting the abbey’s fund-raising appeal.

There’s an opportunity to meet the artists behind the current Past in the Present pottery exhibition and download an app to take you round a Sculpture Trail in the 36 acres of grounds.

Plus of course the abbey plays host to the annual Extravaganza on August 5 with Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson headlining along with Grammy-award winning singer Corinne Bailey Rae and the world famous brass band, the Black Dyke Band and the traditional fireworks will complete the night.

Glastonbury Abbey’s programme of events leads right up until Christmas with a truly special Santa’s Grotto featuring real life reindeer. Chloë Warren, Glastonbury Abbey’s PR and Events Coordinator said, ‘We are really looking forward to welcoming visitors of all generations to Glastonbury Abbey this summer for what promises to be a fantastic and busy summer full of exciting and diverse events.’
