Pond Project - can you help?
Glastonbury Abbey is just £1500 away from its goal to fund the development and repair of its pond.
It is using Crowdfunder to raise the last pounds needed to develop the area in the most sustainable and effective way.
The project aims to provide safer access to water and nature for visitors, as well as improving the pond’s biodiversity and increasing the learning opportunities available to schools, families, the local community and other visiting groups too.
The abbey originally raised £20,000 towards the repair of the wildlife pond through donations from charitable trusts but needed to raise a further £5,000.
Nic Phillips, who is coordinating the project at the abbey, said: “This money will enable us to restabilise the pond bank, allowing us to re-open the pathway that has been closed due to erosion, and allow for safer and closer access around the ponds edge.
“Using the money, additional habitats will also be created, allowing for the ponds inhabitants to continue to thrive, and essential bridge repairs will take place at the same time to minimise disturbance to the ponds eco-system.
“With the generous backing of the Crowdfunder community and wonderful local support including a £3000 anonymous donation, we are now only £1,525 away from achieving our target and it would be fantastic if in the last week of the appeal, we could achieve our goal.”
