Biography for Martin Thomas
Martin is Executive Director of Torbay Culture. He has 25 years experience in working for museums, arts and heritage organisations. As a Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Mentor for eight years he supported the successful delivery of heritage projects across the South West.
He spent five years with the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) as Creative Programmer where he commissioned artists - including Sonia Boyce, Susan Collins and Polly Morgan - and played a key role in securing additional investment for RAMM’s contemporary arts programme. As a consultant, Martin’s clients have included Dartington, The Box Plymouth, and the National Trust, where he co-authored the HLF bid securing £2.5m for the transformational conservation of Castle Drogo.
Previous posts include Director of Exeter Cultural Partnership, Head of Learning for Arts Council England’s south west region and Head of Development at South West Museums Libraries & Archives Council.
