This colourful exhibition features three Somerset women artists, all of whom have been inspired by different aspect of the abbey’s history and collections. Alicia Merrrett has produced vibrant quilted pictures representing artefacts and documents, while Kate Rattray has found fascination in relics and reliquaries for her richly patterned mosaics. Hiro Takahashi has used the abbey’s buildings and environment to inspire her delightful ceramics.

Meet Santa at the abbey

Saturday 2nd - Saturday 16th December 2017

For the first time Santa is taking a break from the North Pole at Glastonbury Abbey on three consecutive Saturdays in December - 2, 9 and 16 - between 11am and 2pm.

You can book your slot to meet him in the Abbot’s Kitchen, listen to a festive story and give him your Christmas wishes.

Afterwards you can also see his Reindeer and have a photograph taken in his sleigh and enjoy all the abbey has to offer.

The price is per child and is to meet Santa only - abbey admission needs to be added when you make your booking and is at the online advance price.

Santa uses Somerset Reindeer Ranch http://www.somersetreindeer.co.uk/ for his reindeer while visiting Glastonbury Abbey. They now have second generation calves, mostly born in the UK so are well acclimatised to our seasons. They are extremely friendly and are fed daily with imported lichen and a range of nuts and grains mixed to their specific requirements. They are herded using their partner breed of dog, the Samoyed, and are happy to work for six weeks at Christmas, spending the rest of the year being waited on hand and hoof!

The timings to see Santa are to coincide with the times required for moving the reindeer and to ensure their welfare is paramount. Somerset Reindeer are also providing the sleigh you can be photographed in.
