Volunteer

"A great privilege to welcome people to such a beautiful and historic place."

At Glastonbury Abbey we have a large number of volunteers who contribute to the running of the abbey across all areas in a wide range of roles. Some of these roles include working on our welcome desk, on educational activities, at our events, on our collections, in our gardens, and with our wildlife.

Whilst volunteering at the abbey you not only get to learn about the abbey's history, archaeology and architecture, but you also get to be part of a large, friendly team.

We hold occasional social events for volunteers throughout the year. Volunteers receive training, a membership after a specified number of hours and also discount in the abbey shop, and café. As a volunteer you are also included in our membership scheme with access to special events/occasions within the abbey as well as a monthly digital magazine. There is also the possibility of free entry to special events.

Why Volunteer?

  • Share Your Skills and Knowledge: Engage with visitors, help maintain the grounds and put your expertise to good use
  • Learn New Things: Discover the abbey's history, archaeology and architecture and access the monthly membership magazine
  • Make New Friends: Take part in exclusive social events and meet people who share your interests
  • Strengthen Your CV: Build your transferable skills and receive professional training
  • Be Part of a Team: Join a friendly, diverse range of volunteers and staff across the abbey grounds
  • Earn Membership Perks: Receive an abbey membership after a specified number of hours, plus discounts in the shop and cafe and free entry to certain events
