A Celebration

Hello and welcome back to the Medieval Kitchen Garden Blog. The garden is really starting to take shape as the beautiful plants and seeds so lovingly planted become firmly established. A enticing array of foliage, vivid colours and edible goodies greet you as our fantastic Kitchen Garden has been officially opened for visitors to explore!

Last month we had our celebratory event - a get together for all of those who helped transform the Medieval Kitchen Garden Project from a concept into reality. The volunteers, staff and tutors met in the Abbots Kitchen for a pop up exhibition of the various courses, and stages involved in the creation of the garden. The group enjoyed a speech from the abbey's director Janet Bell before heading out to the orchard where the Medieval Kitchen Garden is situated to watch the official ribbon cutting.

Everyone eagerly filed into the garden to see it in its full glory and to marvel at Mother Nature at her finest. It was a fantastic opportunity for each individual to see their contributions in place, the raised beds so lovingly laboured over, the beautiful plants that now adorn them through to the hurdles, intricately woven and keeping this beautiful space badger free!

After everyone had a chance to explore the garden, it was back to the Abbots Kitchen for refreshments, cake and a lovely catch up with friends both old and new.

We'd like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone that has made this project possible and to our readers for following the progress of this marvellous adventure .We hope to welcome you to the abbey in the near future so that you may witness the fruits of our community's hard work and vision, creating a legacy garden for future visitors and generations to enjoy!
