COVID-19: Further Information for Visitors to Glastonbury Abbey
Yesterday we posted a short announcement regarding the measures we are having to take in light of the recent government guidance around the COVID-19 virus. Here is some more detail following that announcement. Should you have any questions or require further clarification please do get in touch via email firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the light of the recent advice from government we are having to take further emergency measures in response to COVID-19. We hope that these measures will be temporary and we will be reviewing them constantly to ensure that we are following any further advice that is issued.
As from today, 18th March we will keep only the grounds of the abbey open to visitors, between 9-5 and there will be a flat rate charge of £2.50. This is to ensure that there is a safe open space for our community and visitors for as long as it is possible to do so. We have to make a small charge to ensure that we have some income to try and keep the abbey open for the short and longer term. The shop, museum, Abbot’s Kitchen and St Patrick’s Chapel will be closed. The ticket office will be open and we are installing a glass screen to provide some additional protection. We will continue to welcome visitors as usual but ask everyone to be mindful of the guidance around personal proximity and additional hygiene practises while visiting the abbey.
Entry to the grounds will be via the ticket office and the courtyard adjacent to St. Patrick’s Chapel and not via the museum. Members should continue to use the members’ gate and access the grounds via the courtyard also.
There will be no group activities for visitors such as Living History tours, family or handling activities.
We have either cancelled or postponed all events and activities from now until the end of April and will take a view on events and activities in May as the situation develops and more guidance comes to hand.
We know people are fearful and concerned and we also know that you care about the future as much as what is happening now. It costs £3,000 per day to run Glastonbury Abbey. For us to remain open for the future beyond this emergency we need your help. While we have reduced our entry cost to enable the community to access the grounds we would appreciate any donations you could make to help us continue to maintain the abbey ruins and grounds at this time. You can donate in person when entering the abbey but you can also donate direct by following this link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=MJV2K9RT25DR4&source=url
These times are going to be tough on everyone and we understand if a donation is not something that you can consider at this time. If you can afford it though, we do need your help to ensure that we can keep open during these trying times and beyond.
From everyone at Glastonbury Abbey thank you for your support and keep well.
