Glastonbury Abbey during national lockdown
From November 5th to December 2nd England will enter a national lockdown where all but essential travel is banned. We understand that many local people enjoy the abbey grounds as a space to exercise, walk the dog or simply reflect quietly in the outdoors and would prefer the grounds to be open during the lockdown. We are actively investigating whether this will be possible and await further guidance from the government on the lockdown regulations for sites such as ours.
As we are yet to receive the full guidance we have taken the decision to close from Thursday in line with the national lockdown until at least Tuesday the 10th of November, by which time we would have been able to make a decision in line with the government guidance. The safety of our staff and visitors is of the utmost importance to us and will be a guiding factor in any decision to close or remain open.
