2017 Events Unveiled
A packed events calendar has been unveiled by Glastonbury Abbey for 2017 with new attractions among the mix.
From fundraising events to traditional theatre productions, concerts, and a conference, there’s something for everyone, says James Stone, Events Manager.
“We are working with partners in the community for events such as Wassailing the Abbey Orchard on January 20 and Strode College for a conference marking the 500th anniversary of the reformation on October 28.
“New for this year we are offering a medieval banquet in the spectacular surroundings of the Abbot’s Kitchen, which will be a very special event in September, and during school holidays there will be Friday Family Fun with storytelling or craft sessions,” said James.
“We have also kept in the calendar theatre shows, workshops and talks as we know those are popular; in fact tickets began selling for some of the Shakespeare products within hours of us putting them on our website.
Also featuring in the calendar is the 21st Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza staged at the abbey by Festival founder Michael Eavis – tickets for this event on August 5 went on sale before Christmas; last year’s was a sell-out.
Still to be announced are the popular Badger Walks in the summer and the annual membership talks.
The abbey offers annual membership starting at £34 for adults which gives unlimited access to the grounds 364 days of the year and membership plus from £44 which includes free tickets for Night at the Abbey; last year’s September spectacular of music and light was shortlisted for a national award.
Full details are available on the abbey’s website www.glastonburyabbey.com with tickets on sale either in the abbey shop or via the website.
