Professor Roberta Gilchrist
University of Reading, Director of the Archaeology Project
Roberta Gilchrist is Professor of Archaeology at the University of Reading. She gained her PhD from the University of York (UK), and specialises in the medieval archaeology of Britain, especially in relation to religion and gender. She was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2008 and held a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship 2007-10; she was the Dalrymple Lecturer, University of Glasgow in 2011. Roberta was President of the Society for Medieval Archaeology (2004-7), and for 12 years was Archaeologist to Norwich Cathedral.
Her publications on monastic archaeology have won awards including the Martyn Jope Prize (the Society for Medieval Archaeology) and the British Archaeological Award for Best Scholarly Publication (2006). Roberta represents the Society of Antiquaries on the Board of Trustees of Glastonbury Abbey.
