Dr Jerry Sampson
Buildings Archaeologist and Archaeological Consultant to Caroe & Partners Architects
Jerry is a buildings archaeologist who began work in 1980 on the West Front of Wells Cathedral project. This work resulted in the industry standard for recording standing buildings and sculpture under conservation. As Archaeology Consultant to Caroe & Partners Architects for 20 years he has worked on numerous buildings across the southern counties including Exeter, Wells, Salisbury, Gloucester, Brecon, Rochester and St Davids cathedrals.
He is author of the report on Wells Cathedral West Front and a major contributor to that on Salisbury's west front. He has also written the chapter on archaeological dimensions on stone conservation in the award-winning RIBA volume Stone Conservation. He has worked on Glastonbury Abbey since 1984 and has been Cathedral Archaeologist for St Davids since 1995.
