Terms and conditions of membership
Terminology
“Terms”: These are the terms and conditions applicable to members of Glastonbury Abbey.
“You” / “Your”: Refers to the Glastonbury Abbey Member or applicant to be a member.
“We” / “Us”: Refers to Glastonbury Abbey.
Membership Tiers: Member, Membership Plus, Life Member.
Membership Types: Adult, Joint Adult (2 adults living at the same address), Senior (over 60), Student.
Membership Benefits
- As a member you are entitled, upon presentation of a valid membership card, to free entry to Glastonbury Abbey during normal opening hours, subject to the conditions of entry and standards of behaviour.
- Additional membership benefits are subject to availability and are dependent upon membership tier purchased.
- With the exception of entitlement to free entry to Glastonbury Abbey, we reserve the right to change or withdraw membership benefits without prior notice for any reason.
- Membership is offered as a consumer product. It is not intended to be used as a commercial product or the benefits to be offered as such.
- Members may bring up to four children aged 15 and under for free when they visit. Children must remain supervised at all times.
Events / Exceptions
- Being a member does not entitle you to free entry at ticketed events (unless expressly offered), nor does it guarantee the availability of tickets to any such events.
- Standard opening times may vary depending on events taking place. The abbey may also be closed at short notice for staff training or due to adverse weather conditions or other unforeseen events. Exceptions to standard opening times will be advised on our website or social media, and in advance where possible.
Term
- Membership is valid for 365 days from the date of purchase. If you cancel or are unable to use your membership at any stage during this time refunds or extensions will not be offered in any circumstances.
- If you pay monthly your membership term is still 365 days and cannot be cancelled within a 12 month term.
Refund Policy
- Where you apply for Glastonbury Abbey Membership via online application you have a legal right to change your mind within 14 days of the date of application and receive a refund of membership fees paid; provided that if you have visited the abbey within that period you shall be liable to pay the applicable entry fees in respect of such visit(s). To request a refund please notify the Membership Department by telephone, letter or email (the contact details for which are shown below) within 14 days of receiving your membership pack. No refunds will be issued after this time.
- Where a membership has been purchased in person at Glastonbury Abbey no refund will be applicable.
- Life Members who cannot make use of their membership for any reason are not due any refund.
Membership Application Process
- You are able to access Glastonbury Abbey while your application is being processed. If you have applied online simply present your proof of purchase to Visitors Services to start enjoying your membership benefits straight away.
- We endeavour to process all membership applications within one week of application (online) and on the same day when purchased in person. If you have not received your membership card within this time frame you must let us know within 14 days (of original purchase) or no extension to your membership will be granted.
- We require a valid address and either an email (preferred) or phone number for all membership applications.
- All card holders must supply a full name and date of birth.
Monthly Instalment Payment Method
- If you choose to pay your membership in monthly instalments your membership term remains 1 year (365 days).
- If payments stop during your membership your card(s) will be suspended and you will become liable for the full balance owing.
- Any member that fails to pay all instalments will not be able to renew or take out a new membership until the balance is paid.
- After your first card payment all subsequent payments will be automatic.
- If you miss 2 monthly payments your card on file will be charged for the balance owed on your membership. If payment cannot be taken your membership will be cancelled and no further membership, admission or event tickets will be available until the balance is settled.
- Your membership will continue until you cancel it. Each renewal will be for 1 year (365 days).
- The cost of monthly membership instalments may change at any time in line with changes to annual prices, membership benefits or for any other reason. Your 1 year term of membership is unaffected by any price changes.
Membership Cards
- Memberships, membership cards and any associated benefits are non-transferable and can only be used by the named member.
- Proof of identity may be requested on presentation of your membership card at Glastonbury Abbey.
- To purchase special rate event tickets or gain other benefits you will need to produce your membership card or when purchasing online you will need to enter your membership number to complete your purchase.
- Members who are unable to show a valid membership card on entry will be refused entry.
- Members who refuse to scan their membership card upon entry will be refused entry and may have their membership revoked, without refund of any term remaining.
- Lost or stolen membership cards will be replaced for £5.
Changes in Membership Tier or Type
- Changes to membership Tier or Type can only be processed within 30 days of purchase. If you are within 30 days of starting your membership your original membership will be refunded and a new membership purchased. This can only be done at the abbey and not online.
- If changing your membership within the first 30 days your expiry date remains the same.
Membership Renewals
- We will contact you approximately one month before your membership is due for renewal, detailing the expiry date of your current membership and any further actions you may need to take in order to continue your membership.
- If your membership is paid by monthly or annual automatic payment, we will automatically renew your membership on your renewal date and collect the monies for the coming term unless you notify us that you do not wish to renew your membership by the date stated in your renewal notification.
- Life Members are not subject to a renewals procedure.
- Any member that visits using an expired card will have their renewal backdated to their initial expiry date and not from the date of renewal, or, will be required to pay the daily admission charge for each visit while expired.
Guest Memberships
- Holders of a valid Glastonbury Abbey membership can purchase one unnamed guest membership card per valid membership.
- For Standard and Membership Plus members, a guest membership is valid only for the duration of your membership.
- For Life Members a guest membership card is valid for 365 days from the date of purchase.
- Your guest membership card will not be named and can be used by anyone you wish to give it to.
- Your guest membership card can be used without you being present.
- Your guest is bound by the terms and conditions of membership and terms and Conditions of Entry to the site.
- You are responsible for the behaviour of any guest using your membership card. Any behaviour that results in actions being taken against your guest may also affect your membership.
- Guest membership cards are not to be offered as part of any commercial business the member is conducting. They are not intended to be used by commercial businesses as a product to be offered for commercial or promotional gain.
Promotions
- Offers and discounts cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotions.
Extended Closures
- Glastonbury Abbey endeavours to be open 364 days per year. Should the abbey be forced to close for an extended period you may be offered an extension to your membership. This is at the abbey's discretion and is not guaranteed.
Further Conditions
- All members are expected to behave within the guidelines of our Terms and Conditions of entry. This includes but is not limited to being respectful towards the site, staff and other visitors, behaving as directed (as appropriate) and exiting the site as required. - We reserve the right to refuse entry and/or membership and/or to revoke membership without refund if the member:
- Behaves in a threatening or abusive manner towards any person while at, entering or leaving Glastonbury Abbey.
- Damages or threatens to damage any of the collections or property of Glastonbury Abbey.
- Enters the grounds of the abbey or abbey house, the ruins or buildings outside the hours of admission to the public, unless by invitation or previous agreement.
- Or acts in a manner which could bring Glastonbury Abbey into disrepute.
- We reserve the right to revoke your membership at any time, without financial compensation, if you commit any breach of these terms or any other terms applicable to Glastonbury Abbey and the operation of its business.
- We reserve the right to change these Terms at any time.
- The validity, construction and performance of these Terms shall be governed by English law and we and you hereby submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
