Key Stage One to Four

Your KS1 to KS4 education visit to Glastonbury Abbey will include a History Explorer's Tour led by one of our costumed presenters and full access to the Abbey grounds and Museum.

We have a number of additional bookable activity sessions available to help further enhance your educational experience.

Our KS1 offer for pupils between 3 and 6 includes the opportunity to discover the Abbey's stories, myths and legends.

Our popular KS2 group visits aimed at ages 7-11 are open to booking. We offer sessions focusing on either the Anglo Saxons or the Tudor period.

KS3 & KS4 students can take part in a variety of onsite sessions delivered by our team of professional educators. Through our balanced curriculum offer, students can engage with and experience the unique history and stories of the abbey through tours, talks and artefact handling sessions.

Higher & Further Education

Higher education groups from colleges and universities can access a high quality education visit at one of the earliest centres of monasticism in England.

History Explorer's Tour

Explore history and legends in the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey. Included with all KS1 to KS4 visits.

Led by one of our costumed presenters we will discuss the myths, legends and amazing history of the famous Abbey. You will find out about the Anglo Saxon and Medieval monasteries and discuss the differences between them. Pupils will also learn how monks lived and get to explore the ruins of the abbey.

Price: included in your abbey entry.

Curriculum Objectives:

To develop an understanding of how we find out about and interpret the past.
To use a range of different sources to find out about the lives of people who lived in and around Glastonbury in the past.
To develop historical enquiry skills by asking and answering questions, selecting and recording information and drawing conclusions relevant to the focus of the enquiry.
To communicate knowledge and understanding of the past in organised and structured ways.
To recognise that the past can be represented and interpreted in different ways at a heritage site.
